What is a Supportive Ingredient?

In skincare, a supportive ingredient is an ingredient that supports the skin in tolerate actives and staying healthy.  The ingredients don't treat specific concerns or run the risk of the skin not being able to tolerate them. They strengthen the skin barrier and calm irritation and infaimmation.

Ceramides

Ceramides are lipids that reinforce the skins outer layer, and hold skin cells together. A healthier barrier reduces sensitivity and inflammation- issues contributing to mny skin concerns.

Cholesterol

Cholesterol is a lipid which works best as an emollient and adding softness and smoothness to the skin. It replenishes moisture to dry skin. Proper keep of the product is essential, as it is prone to expiration.

Peptides are amino acids which are building blocks in the skin's proteins. These proteins incluide collagen, keratin, and elastin. Therefore they hydrate the skin, battle signs of aging, and strengthen the skin barrier

Allantoin is a soothing agent. It also mitigate the skin's response to actives. It is ideal for sensitive or damaged skin, and is present in many skincare products.

Panthonel works as both a humectant, and a emollient- meaning it both retains water to the skin, and seals in moisture. It reduces transepidermal water loss and stimulates cell proliferation. Therefore, it is ideal for dry, sensitive, or damaged skin.
